There is a new application available for Sparkers: Caprine. What is Caprine? Elegant Facebook Messenger desktop app. Caprine is an unofficial and privacy focused Facebook Messenger app with many useful features. Installation (64 bit only): apt update apt install caprine. The application is licensed under the MIT License. Caprine is an Electron Facebook Messenger application that's focused on privacy. I know that Facebook and privacy shouldn't really be used in the same sentence unless they are accompanied by 'lack of', but Caprine tries to improve this, by preventing Facebook from tracking the links that you click. The application also ships with options to hide the last seen / typing indicator, and a way to.

Caprine Capers added a new photo to the album: Goat tats!! November 29, 2019 Losing a friend is so difficult, but Amy memorialized her two boys Maximus and Cosmo with this beautiful and sweet tribute.

Usage

caprine is available as an AppImage which means 'one app = one file', which you can download and run on your Linux system while you don't need a package manager and nothing gets changed in your system. Awesome!

AppImages are single-file applications that run on most Linux distributions. Download an application, make it executable, and run! No need to install. No system libraries or system preferences are altered. Most AppImages run on recent versions of Arch Linux, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and other common desktop distributions.

Running caprine on Linux without installation

Unlike other applications, AppImages do not need to be installed before they can be used. However, they need to be marked as executable before they can be run. This is a Linux security feature.

Behold! AppImages are usually not verified by others. Follow these instructions only if you trust the developer of the software. Use at your own risk!

Download the caprine AppImage and make it executable using your file manager or by entering the following commands in a terminal:

Then double-click the AppImage in the file manager to open it.

Sandboxing caprine

If you want to restrict what caprine can do on your system, you can run the AppImage in a sandbox like Firejail. This is entirely optional and currently needs to be configured by the user.

Updating caprine

If you would like to update to a new version, simply download the new caprine AppImage.

Integrating AppImages into the system

If you would like to have the executable bit set automatically, and would like to see caprine and other AppImages integrated into the system (menus, icons, file type associations, etc.), then you may want to check the optional appimaged daemon.

Thanks for distributing caprine in the AppImage format for all common Linux distributions. Great! Here are some ideas on how to make it even better.

Pro Tips for further enhancing the caprine AppImage

Please consider to add update information to the caprine AppImage and ship a .zsync file so that it can be updated using AppImageUpdate. Tools like appimagetool and linuxdeployqt can do this for you easily.

Improve this entry by shipping an AppStream metainfo file inside the AppImage in the usr/share/metainfo directory. We have an online tool that makes it easy to make one.

Facebook Messenger is an instant messaging service from Facebook. It launched in August 2011 on Android and iOS. On Windows Phone, you could access Facebook Messenger from the official Facebook app for the platform. The standalone Facebook Messenger app for Windows Phone finally came out in March of 2014. It wasn't until April 2016 that Facebook Messenger for Windows 10 was released.

Facebook Messenger, sometimes called just FB Messenger or Messenger, works just like SMS and most other modern-day instant messaging services. Facebook Messenger works over your data plan, so it doesn't count against your SMS limit on your carrier. As long as you have a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection you can use the app to send messages to all your friends on Facebook.

Here's what you can do with Facebook Messenger on Windows Phone:

  • Access messages without opening Facebook
  • Send stickers and photos privately and directly to your friends
  • Have group conversations
  • Share your location so your friends can know when you're nearby
  • Know when people have seen your messages
  • Stay logged in and never miss a message
  • Turn off notifications when you need a break
  • Never lose your conversation history or contacts
